T2 | Strijp-S Train Station
A train station where both haste and relaxation are expressed in the building. The dynamic shape is entangled with the tracks themselves and is thus clearly recognisable as a train station.
T4 | Pavilion for meditation and contemplation
A pavilion situated at the river 'de Dommel' on the campus ground of the Eindhoven University of Technology. It contain an introvert and an extravert part, which through a pronounced design and different realisation, are articulated in a distinct manner.
T5 | Winter Garden
A winter garden digged in into the ground. The ground around the garden buffers temperature shifts. The gradual excavation reduces the ground pressure. The opposite approach of the threes resembles a mystical descent through the canopy of the trees.
T6 | Redesign Pastor van Ars-church
A church losing it's former function as a house of prayer and is being redesigned for housing the elderly. The lack of daylight is addressed by placing light columns which scatter natural daylight into the room in a sacral manner.
S5 | Generative Design
Music and Architecture are related to each other in their search for, among other things, harmony, rhythm and arousing certain moods. By means of a generic approach with the use of scripting this relation has been uncovered.
SpellerCoMeerding.nl
SpellerCo Meerding is an office for urban and landscape design. The website of SpellerCo Meerding has been realised by Thomas.
J.S. Bach on the dance floor
If architecture is frozen music, I call this melting space. The colours and proportions are derived from a Prelude by J.S. Bach. The floor tiles lit up individually and therefore reintroduce the temporal dimension which disappeared in the conversion process.
SAR design with CAD
This website has been made on account of the course SAR design with CAD lectured at the Eindhoven University of Technology TU/e. It shows the results of six weeks of lectures and instructions
Archikey.com
Archikey combines detailed information of the built environment with beautiful architectural photography. The information is stored semantically and is therefore specifically queryable in a way which was previously impossible.
M1 | Schiphol Airport.
A conceptual idea that is extensively tested with numerous simulations. In contrast with the conventional signs in Schiphol this is a proposal in which it becomes instantly clear for the traveller where to check in and board. Additionally, the architectural qualities of the terminal in relation to colour are studied.
Blender Behavioural Simulation
Proof of concept. By combining Blender and Opensteer a Real-time simultaneous modelling and simulation package arises. For the designer this means direct feedback on modelling decisions.
M2 | The Mine
Restructuring a deserted mining complex into a poetic Artist-in-residence facility. The way through the complex acts as a slide show reflecting on history and present.
Collaborative Design and Engineering
In a group of thirty students a design had to be made for a high riser in the centre of Eindhoven. The group had been split in several companies each responsible for a specific part of the design. Thomas participated in the Architecture company and was responsible for the architectural concept and visualisations.
Animation and Rendering
After introducing some elementary rendering techniques, the final part of this assignment was to create a short rendered movie in or around an architectural object. The model is the result of another simultaneous course. Both the storytelling and the rendering techniques amplify the feeling of a dream.
Freeform Design
In this course a model was conceived in Blender. This model was then remodelled in Rhinoceros with the use of NURBS curves and surfaces. In the final part the design logic was analysed and generalised into a single generative design procedure in Grasshopper.
TNO Toegankelijk Bouwen
This website highlights several elements of a neighbourhood that are designed with accessibility in mind. The visitor can walk through the neighbourhood and enter the buildings, specific demands in relation to accessibility will popup when the visitor hovers over respective building elements.
